Curvy Herbie and Straight Nate: A Lesson in Curved Line Thinking   My son's Speech Pathologist sent home a sheet one day asking us to participate in a "lesson in curved line thinking.  I thought, this is good, but where are the visuals??? Since I am not much of an artist,and wanting to keep the illustrations simple, I drew Herbie and Nate as stick figures.  I then asked my sister in law, the graphic artist to dress it up.  Hence, Herbie and Nate were born!

The book is a simple story about Straight Nate, the non-flexible fellow who has the rigidity of thought that many persons on the Autism Spectrum experience.  Curvy Herbie, on the other hand, is the free-wheeling, adventuresome type.  Curvy Herbie is able to show Straight Nate "it is fun to be a curved line thinker".   The book is currently being used in my son's Autism Support class and the kids like it.  Three speech pathologists, including Miss Alice, the inventor of "curved line thinking" are using the book as I write this and are already seeing more flexibility in some of the most rigid kids.    If you would like a copy of Curvy Herbie and Straight Nate simply email us at sales@explodingpenproductions.com.   The cost is $10.00 which includes shipping and handling and PA Sales tax.  The book is printed on card stock and the front and back covers are laminated.  The back inside cover provides an option for the child to draw him or herself as a curved line thinker and to list new things that he or she will try.  A dry erase marker will allow for multiple uses of this page.   WE are very excited about our creation and hope you will be too!
